'Self Portrait Daniel D. Teoli Jr'
If I had do sum up my interest in photography…it must stem from a liking to being able to ‘freeze time.’
I am a self-taught photographer specializing in social documentary photography. I started photographing in Los Angeles and Hollywood, CA in 1970. I moved to Ohio in 1989 and gradually made the switch to digital photography which I use most of the time. I still enjoy shooting film for swing lens and 6x6 medium format work.
Here are samples of my current work:
My artists statement?
I guess it could be boiled down to: “What you see is what you get.”
There is something that transforms the snapshot into a photograph. A spark of alchemy the photographer uses that turns the ordinary photo into something that is worthy of a second look. That elusive transformation is what I have set out to capture in my photography.
My first book 'Peephole: Peering Into the World of 1970's Hollywood and L.A.' was offered as a limited edition, hand printed artist’s book in 2013.
I am now working on my second book of the ‘Peephole’ series entitled “Peephole: Bikers Mardi Gras”
I have photographs and / or bound limited edition print portfolios in the permanent collections of a number of museums and public institutions in the US, Canada, UK, and Asia. My biography is at the end of this blog.
Thanks’ for viewing!
